Choices made from the "Generate & Save Transcript PFD(s)" dialog affect the transcript currently being processed. To set default settings for all transcripts processed, choose Edit Preferences from the Preferences Menu. From there, you can set default settings.
PDF Base Filename
TranscriptWizard™ Plus will create a base file name for each transcript generated. The base file name will consist of the Witness Name and Date as it appears in the Header Information pane. If nothing is entered in the Header Infomration pane, TranscriptWizard™ Plus will create the base file name from the name of the ASCII text file you are processing. If you prefer, you may override the generated base file name by entering one yourself in this field.
In addition to the selected base file name, TranscriptWizard™ Plus will automatically add one of the following suffixes to the base file name to distinguish the different types of PDF formats:
|Standard||no additional suffix|
|Standard w/ Index||adds Idx|
|Condensed 2 pgs per sheet||adds Cnd2|
|Condensed 2 pgs w/ Index||adds Cnd2_Idx|
|Condensed 4 pgs per sheet (Mini)||adds Mini|
|Condensed 4 pgs Mini w/ Index||adds Mini_Idx|
|Word Index Only||adds Only_Idx|
|Condensed 3 pgs per sheet w/ Notes||adds Cnd3|
|Condensed 3 pgs w/Notes & Index||adds Cnd3_Idx|
|Condensed 2 pgs per sheet w/ Notes||adds Cnd2a|
|Condensed 2 pgs w/Notes & Index||adds Cnd2a_Idx|
|Condensed 6 pgs per sheet||adds Cnd6|
|Condensed 6 pgs w/ Index||adds Cnd6_Idx|
Save in Folder
Save in Folder is the area that allows you to choose where your transcript will be saved once
it has been generated. To the right of the Save in Folder field is a Browse button that allows
you to find the folder on your system where you want your PDFs to be saved.
This field must have a full file path. It is not enough just to put "My Documents." If you try to generate a PDF without a full file path in that field, a Generating/File Saving PDF Error dialog will pop up.
PDF Output Formats
TranscriptWizard™ Plus can produce transcript PDFs in 8 different formats.
Full sized pages, page per page as in original transcript
Condensed 2 pgs per sheet
Two transcript pages per PDF page divided horizontally
Condensed 4 pgs per sheet (mini) ordered by column
Four transcript pages per PDF page with the transcript pages ordered from top to bottom. This format is optimal for reading on the printed page. It is our natural way of reading.
Condensed 3 pgs per sheet w/Notes
Three transcript pages per PDF page divided horizontally. Each transcript page has an area of blank lines to the right of it to allow for note taking while reviewing the transcript.
Condensed 2 pgs per sheet w/Notes
Two transcript pages per PDF page divided horizontally. Each transcript page has an area of blank lines to the right of it to allow for note taking while reviewing the transcript.
Condensed 6 pgs per sheet ordered by column
Six transcript pages per PDF page with the transcript pages ordered from top to bottom. This format is optimal for reading on the printed page. It is our natural way of reading.
Condensed 6 pgs per sheet ordered by row
Six transcript pages per PDF page with the transcript pages ordered from left to right. While it's natural to read a condensed transcript in column order (top to bottom), this doesn't work well when trying to read the PDF on a computer screen. This format is optimal for reading the transcript on a computer screen because it requires less scrolling up and down.
Each of the 8 formats can be generated with or without a printed Word Index or a printed Word Index can be generated on its own.
Word Index refers only to the printed Word Index which can be appended to the end of the transcript when the PDF is generated or generated on its own. Each PDF file will automatically be electronically indexed so the PDF file will be searchable and the indexed words will be hyperlinked to the transcript.
Highlight/Bold questions or answers
On the Generate and Save Transcript PDF(s) dialog which appears when you click Generate Transcript either from the File menu or the Toolbar, you are given the option of highlighting the question or the answer or neither. If you choose to highlight the question or answer, your choice will appear in bold on the transcript PDF.
Unless you have a properly licensed copy of TranscriptWizard™, Plus a watermark will appear on every page of every PDF you generate saying "EVALUATION COPY." Once you have licensed your copy of TranscriptWizard™ Plus, if you need to add a watermark to your transcript, there is a field near the bottom left side of the Generate and Save PDF(s) dialog for you to put the text of your watermark. This is useful for distinguishing a "Rough Draft" or "Confidential" transcript.
TranscriptWizard™ Plus provides Court Reporters with the option of including identifying
information about their company in the footer portion of the page (the area of the page under
You can choose to print the footer from two locations. One place to choose to print the footer is from the Generate and Save PDF(s) dialog accessible from the Generate PDF option under the File Menu or the Generate PDF icon on the Tool Bar. This will allow you to choose whether or not to print the footer each time you process the transcript.
To set Print Footer as the default for all of your transcripts, you must choose Print Footer from the Preferences menu, Edit Preferences, PDF options.
The Footer content is adjusted from the PDF Footer Preferences dialog.
Open PDF(s) after saving
You can choose to have TranscriptWizard™ Plus open each of the PDFs as they are generated so that you can view them or print them. Check the box on the lower left hand corner of the Generate & Save PDF(s) dialog.
If you do not want them to open, uncheck that box.
You can still open any of the PDFs from the TranscriptWizard™ Plus program without having to go into your files. The Generated Files pane keeps a running list of all transcripts processed by TranscriptWizard™ Plus during your session. Click on any of the file names to open the PDF. The generated file history is cleared when the program is closed. The next time you open TranscriptWizard™ Plus, you start with a fresh slate.
